My name is Jason Butler and I have been interested in photography since 2003. It all started at the age of 16 when I acquired a tiny digital "spy camera" ( I have always enjoyed using gadgets ). I use to try and take nice photographs with it, but with its 2 megapixel quality and no way to see the photographs until you had connected them to the computer, it was quite difficult. Although that did not stop me enjoying taking photographs.
A year later I saved up enough money to buy a BenQ compact digital camera, which is not a very well known camera brand, but they do have one of the best customer services I have experienced. After my compact BenQ camera had broken, the nice people at BenQ upgraded the broken camera to a new version. I went on a lot of walks just so I could take photos.
Around six months later, one of my photographs was printed in a local newspaper. They entitled the photograph "What the Butler saw". As you can imagine I was thrilled with this as I didn't expect to get my photograph in the paper. We bought as many copies of the newspaper as we could.
When I was 19 I decided to apply for my first photography job. The thought of the interview was terrifying, but I calmed myself down. At the interview I was told that the camera I had ( currently a Nikon Coolpix ), wouldn't achieve what they needed. They asked me if there was any possibility that I could get a hold of a better camera. I gathered up all the money I had saved and having such nice parents they lent me the rest of the money. So I went out to a camera shop and came back with a shiny new Nikon D70s kit. I spent the day figuring it out and also getting use to the professional layout, which was confusing at first. The camera must have done the trick as I got the job and received enough money to pay my parents back.
At the age of 20 I thought that it would be great to have a qualification in photography, so I set about looking for a course. At the time my Grandmother was living with us and she wasn't in good health, so I thought I would look for a home course, in order to help my Mum look after her.
In 2008 I had my 21st birthday and with the bonds that I had received as a present I bought the Nikon d300, which is my favourite camera.
At the moment I am still busy studying. At times I find it hard to get motivated but I am getting there. I have achieved a large portfolio of photographs, which I am very proud of. I have not posted them all onto my web site as there are far too many. I have no idea what obstacles I may face or what the future holds for me but I am determined to improve my skills as a photographer and hopefully make a name for myself.
Thank you for reading.
